SWUG Leadership Scholarship

The SWUG bi-ennial Leadership Scholarship is once again up for grabs in 2012.

The Leadership scholarship was introduced to acknowledge, educate, encourage and reward up and coming leaders in the Australian coldset newspaper printing industry.

The winner will receive an all expenses paid educational trip to the value of $20,000 to visit an array of international printing and supplier sites as well as attending drupa 2012.

Applications or nominations must be in writing and include supporting documentation of achievements. All entries must be authorised and signed by the applicants’ employer or senior manager.

To be eligible for the scholarship the following criteria must be met:

  1. Dedication, motivation and enthusiasm for the single width coldest newspaper printing industry as demonstrated through his/her leadership with colleagues and/or customers.
  2. Promotes the importance and support of the industry within their organisation or business unit.
  3. Reflects the importance of leading-edge technology and addresses the most current needs of the industry through education and training programs.
  4. A specific example of industry or training accomplishment attributed to the individual.
  5. Demonstrated leadership.
  6. Demonstrated commitment to Health, Safety and Environmental issues in the single width newspaper printing industry.
  7. Minimum of five years industry experience.

All entries must be received by COB on February 17, 2012 and posted to PO Box 999, North Richmond, NSW 2754. Attn: Anita White.

All applicants will be required to attend the 2012 SWUG conference where the winner will be announced.

The 2012 winner will also be required to attend the 2013 SWUG conference where they will present an overview of learnings from their Scholarship.

2010 SWUG Leadership Award

North Richmond

General manager of the Fairfax Media print centre at North Richmond, NSW, Sean Tait (pictured right with staff at the South China Morning Post), was the latest recipient of the SWUG Leadership Scholarship in 2010. He used the award to travel to 22 print sites around the world in Asia, Europe and the US. He also visited the IFRA Expo in Hamburg, Germany, to view the latest technology in newspaper production.

After completing his trip, Sean gave a presentation at the 2011 SWUG conference in Hobart about the sites he had visited.
